1971 340 Dodge Swinger

The 1971 Dodge 340 Swinger has a great history behind them. I am in the process of restoring one of the few remaining Swingers. If anyone has more info on these unique classic cars please email me at dale@71swinger.com.  I have been in contact with a few of the lucky owners of these cars and hope to give a small story on each remaining car. The man that deserves most of the credit for the information of the 71 340 Swinger is Dan Rasmussen of Edmonton Alberta Canada.

The Dodge Dart Swinger was not offered with the 340 in 1971. Because of the overwhelming interest in these by A body enthuses, two Canadian Dodge dealers one located in Regina, Saskatchewan (Crestview) and one located in Edmonton, Alberta (Crosstown) convinced Chrysler to manufacture approx. 75 of these awesome cars. There were approx. 25 Crestview Saskatchewan cars and 50 Crosstown Alberta cars. Crestview cars were produced on May 13 1971 and the Crosstown cars on May 7 1971. These cars were built as the Swinger Special which gave the the VIN prefix LL23H1R (L=Dar, L=Low, 23=2 door hardtop, H=340, 1=1971, R=Windsor Ontario Plant). The Swinger Special was actually the bottom of the line Dart. The Crestview cars were upgraded to the H2XW interiors although the fender tags and build sheets indicate L2X9 interiors. The build sheets for these cars have H2XW written in red marker. The Crestview cars also received "Special Trim" which included rallye wheels, hood scoops, chrome exhaust tips and hood and wheel mouldings. The Crosstown cars were much plainer. They came with rubber floor mats, no rear armrests and were equipped as Swinger Specials would have been.
